This week on The Station the team had a special episode that was the first of its kind. The Station is a Twitter Space that discusses music. The team had the pleasure of hosting a listening party for artist, Frankie w/ the lisp and producer, Blvckfriday. The team had the opportunity to listen to Frankie’s album Crybaby on the album’s release date of July 13th. The album showcases the great dynamic of the duo with each track having different qualities that displayed their talents.
Frankie w/ the lisp is a rapper and singer that has been displaying her talents for 5 years. Frankie explained that the inspiration for “Crybaby” came from her experiences of being an emotional person and not being ashamed of that. Often the term crybaby has a negative connotation that comes with it but this album is a good example of showing what facing those emotions can look like.
The album was produced by Blvck Friday who described working with Frankie as a perfect match of an artist and producer combo. Blvck Friday expressed that having the opportunity to experiment on both ends helped make this project special.
The album starts with the track “1800-Crybaby” which is a great album opener, Frankie starts out with melodic singing and the track has a great change of pace and tempo. Blvck Friday revealed that when making the beat for this track it was one of the first times of having a change of tempo for him, which was an experiment for the both of them. This track was beautifully executed by both artists and came in strong. Frankie also premiered one of her favorite songs on the album called “Needa” where she is describing what she feels she needs from someone / romantic interest.
The album closes with the track “Billz” ft. Gale Salvo & Yellie B. This explosive track samples the classic Bills by Destiny’s Child. The track immediately demands the attention of any one who listens with its R&B / Drill beat. This track is definitely a crowd favorite and can be played anywhere.
The Station had the exclusive of listening to the album first, and hearing about the hard work that went into the album as well. The album is definitely a great mix of R&B, Drill, and Hip Hop inspirations and sounds. Blvck Friday and Frankie are a great team and made a beautiful project that all can enjoy. Whether you are chilling with friends or you are vibing out by yourself the album “Crybaby” definitely has a song for you.
We look forward to hearing what Blvck Friday and Frankie have coming in the near future.
