The Station.

Twitter Spaces.

Man oh man, has this been a long time coming...

Twitter Spaces isn't so new to me. I have been apart of Twitters beta testing for Spaces since November of 2020. While I got to participate, learn, connect and, grow on Twitter Spaces, I was thinking on what I can do. How can I make a community on this platform. How can I build a foundation in audio influencing. What would I talk about..

Fill the blank: "Smoove likes music and ________". Whatever you fill in the blank with, the first interest will always be music. I brainstormed the concept to a few folks within the twitter family I was apart of during development of the feature. As I was seeing other publications finally realize the value of Spaces, I knew I had to jump. Very high. I want to be apart of the wave that brings music to Spaces. There are no weekly spaces that discuss music. The Station is the first of its kind on the platform. There are platforms like iHeartRadio that do a New Music Friday space from time to time and there's a board of folks giving quick takes on new music in that genre.

AudioMack is another platform I have seen recently use the feature on Twitter. Doing a women's oriented space to highlight women, it was the first of its kind. Music was provided by DJ Miss Milan. In the month of March, it being women's month. It was a space filled with women. Talking with artists like Shann. Learning more about her and her music takes. It was dope. Its needed more often.

I want to be the one to put people on via Twitter. Seriously. Not for not but Twitter is my shit. Due to the loyalty and interest I have with Twitter, I hand selected a team of 5 and brought The Station to life within a 5 day span.

Being The Source, I tapped into my network of music lovers. All of different walks of music and life. Roles that fill the staff; Publication owner, Audio Producer, Song Writer & Artist Manager, Playlist curator and A&R, Music Enthusiasts', and Music Journalists'. I made sure that I got people that play different roles in the music industry because their perspectives on the same topic will be completely different. I made sure to have a staff of 5-6 so then we can have 4 more speakers from the audience to come chat.

First week, we brought in an audience of 24. Second week which was May 11th, we brought in an audience of 68. First episode ran an hour long. Second episode ran 2 hours and 15 minutes. Talk about numbers lol. (Twitter, I'm ready when you are.) I don't know what to expect for Wednesday, but I am super excited to see how it goes! I am so grateful for not only the folks who came and sat to us talk for two hours but for those who also participated and shared their takes on music with us. Space was fire.

Discussions are always different from the last. Which is super important to me. To kick off The Station our intro discussion was, pioneers to male R&B. Breaking it down by decade. 90s, 00s, 10s. Follow up episode touched based on the music we grew up hearing and how it effected our ears as adults. This week we are talking BBMA nominees, making of a label, and the lifespan of VerzusTV.

Every week, Wednesdays at 8pm/EST. On Twitter Spaces.

Join us, here on Wednesday.
