Have you been having relationship problems? Is this new year giving new you? Are you blind to the b.s.? Are you smoking on your ex pack? If you can relate and answer yes to these questions, SZA's latest project-SOS-is #TheMove for you.
SZA's SOS was officially released December 9th, 2022 (Sanfiarenzo). Her second album features a variety of genres including R&b, Rock, and Contemporary just to name a few. Fans have commented on SZA's talent in creating the tracks on SOS in addition to having songs on repeat.
If you struggle listening or digesting entire projects have no fear, I've done it for you. SOS has 23 tracks and I'll be honest only two or three songs rank a 5/10 or less in my opinion.
SOS (5/10)
Kill Bill (7.5/10)
Seek & Destroy (9/10)
Low (6.5/10)
Love Language (10/10)
Blind (8/10)
Used (7.5/10)
Snooze (9/10)
Notice Me (10/10)
Gone Girl (7/10)
Smoking on my Ex Pack (10/10)
Ghost in the Machine (7/10)
F2F (8/10)
Nobody Gets Me (6/10)
Conceited (7/10)
Special (6/10)
Too Late (8/10)
Far (9/10)
Shirt (9/10)
Open Arms (6/10)
I Hate U (10/10)
Good Days (7/10)
Forgiveless (5/10)
Some standout songs for me were Smoking on my ex pack, Notice Me, F2F, Gone Girl, and Love Language. To me these were either interesting mixes or SZA just sliddddd (like on love language *sigh*).
Needless to say SZA went crazy and here's why I personally think her album did so well. For starters, SZA's visuals are normally entrancing and captivating. Take Shirt for example. In that visual, she's in a duo Bonnie & Clyde type of relationship before her lover kills her and she's reincarnated to watch him be tortured. The scene then changes to her singing in a kitchen debuting one of her songs on the then unreleased album. Her latest video is for Kill Bill where she basically embodies the story of Uma Thurman's character, before debuting a snippet of another visual. In short, her team knows what they're doing when it comes to marketing.
Not only that, but also SOS is clearly a story much like Ctrl. A woman struggling with love. With Valentine's Day around the corner, all the single girlies have something to blast to get all their negative energy out. Honestly, men could probably relate to some of the romances and intensity of wanting your way in a relationship.
My final case for why this album has done so well is because you can see the growth in SZA. Her writing for this album was fantastic and very relatable in songs such as Too Late and I Hate U. You see SZA's growth as a person (from what she shows the public)too, which makes this project all the more special. It seems like SZA is in her happy girl era.
What's even better? Her project has been on the Billboard charts since it dropped. Currently, she's ranked at number two on the Top 100 artist list.
