This past Sunday, March 12, marked the 95th Academy Awards Ceremony. From the fashion to the nominations, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The Oscars were hosted for the third time by Jimmy Kimmel and featured performances by Rihanna and Lady Gaga.
Let’s recap some of the stunning looks from the night.

Angela Bassett was nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever but lost to Jamie Lee Curtis. Angela won a Golden Globe award for her performance so she didn’t leave the awards cycle without something to show. She wore a beautiful bright purple dress by Moschino. The color and puffy sleeves of the dress had a vaguely 80’s look to it, but the shape felt all modern. Beyond the gorgeous color, the gown fit her perfectly. Once again, Angela Bassett did the thing.
Cara Delevingne also opted for a dramatic ensemble and wore an Elie Saab Couture gown. Her leg slit gave people Angelia Jolie flashbacks, and with those high heels, she couldn't have paid homage better. The look was complemented by Bulgari jewels and a slicked-back up-do. This is her first red carpet outing after revealing she completed rehab and is now sober. Sobriety and scarlet red look good on her.
Harry Shum Jr. wore a look by Adeam, a luxury fashion brand focusing on blending East and West aesthetics. For many men on the red carpet, there is a severe lack of effort, but this look mixed a regular tuxedo with traditional Eastern clothing flair. For an award season that was filled with Asian representation, it was a gorgeous garment to be shared. Harry had a brief appearance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, which won a slew of awards, including Best Feature Film.

Brian Tyree Henry was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the AppleTV+ film Causeway but lost to Ke Huy Quan, the favorite to win the category. He wore a beautifully embellished tuxedo that oozed intricacy. Again, many men at the ceremony play it safe, so it’s always exciting to see the extra effort being put into a regular tuxedo.
Camila Alves wore a beautifully elegant black mermaid gown. It was simple but looked so lovely on the carpet that I had to include it in my best-dressed list. It called back to an old Hollywood vibe that is always welcome on the red carpet. The way that the gloves were seamlessly worked into the dress added that extra touch of class that really made this look jaw-dropping.
Tems helped write “Lift Me Up” which was nominated for Best Original Song and lost to “Naatu Naatu” from the film RRR. Her dress was by Lever Couture and dazzled with its form and ethereal look. However, some unlucky people stuck sitting behind and next to her probably weren’t quite as amazed by the garment. Don’t they realize this dress is the show?

Sandra Oh served us spring-time Greek Goddess in her draped tangerine gown. Sandra starred in Disney’s Turning Red, which lost Best Animated Feature Film to Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. The flow of the dress shone through even in the red carpet pictures. Solid, bright colors were heavily featured on the carpet with Sandra leading the charge.
Janelle Monáe might have had the best look of the night in her custom Vera Wang black and coral two-piece gown. The construction of the skirt is perfectly made for her and the vibrantly colored skirt makes major moves in making this a beautiful look. Janelle attended the Oscars for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay but lost to Women Talking. Thank you, Janelle, for looking like that.
From looking at the champagne-colored carpet looks, it seems as if flashy colors will dominate the fashion cycle for a little bit longer. Not seen in these pictures but featured predominantly on the stars were drop waist dresses and silhouettes.
