Multi-hyphenate artist and entrepreneur Michael O is about to change the way we experience music. His upcoming EP, Lagos to London is a boundary-blurring mix of R&B, Afrobeats, and Afro-soul. It drops exclusively on the NKENNE App in late August, with a wider release on all major streaming platforms to follow.
The project already has his fans talking, thanks to early singles like “Careless Whispers” and “Japa”. But Lagos to London goes even deeper. It’s Michael O’s most personal work yet, a celebration of his bicultural upbringing. Born in the United States and raised between Lagos and the diaspora, Michael has crafted a sound that honors his African heritage while pushing musical boundaries. The result? A “sonic bridge between continents” that blends rhythm and heart.
Michael isn’t just releasing music, he’s reinventing the experience of listening. As the co-creator of NKENNE, the most downloaded African language learning platform, he’s using the app to make Lagos to London more than an EP. Fans streaming on NKENNE will get translated lyrics in Nigerian Pidgin and other African languages Michael sings in, along with cultural context to help them understand the stories behind the songs.
“For me, the fun is in finding new ways to merge both worlds — music and tech,” Michael says. “If people listening want to learn Nigerian Pidgin while vibing to the music, they can and NKENNE is there to make that happen.”
While each track on Lagos to London carries its own unique blend of influences, Michael says the title track sums up the EP best: “It’s playful, but it weaves together all my influences while telling the story of movement between two continents. It’s the journey in song form.”
After its NKENNE debut, Lagos to London will make its way to all major streaming platforms, ensuring Michael’s message and music reach audiences worldwide. And with his drive to fuse tech, culture, and artistry, this likely won’t be the last time we see him push the boundaries of what a music release can be.
