Learning the facts- #mentalhealthedition



This week #MentalHealthMonday, we are going to dive a little bit deeper into Mental Health, ITSELF. We can talk about the way we do things, why we do things, but we have yet to learn about actual disorders- and what they mean! With that being said This week we are going to be learning about Borderline Personality Disorder. Some of you may know what this is, and some of you may have absolutely NO clue, and that’s okay!


What is Borderline Personality Disorder?

A mental health disorder that impacts the way an individual feels and thinks about themselves and others, causing problems functioning in everyday life. This includes self image issues, difficulty managing emotions and behavior and a pattern of unstable relationships.

This usually begins in early adulthood and according to mayoclinic.org - the condition seems to be worse in young adulthood and may gradually get better with age.


Symptoms:

  • Ongoing feelings of emptiness

  • Fear of abandonment

  • Extreme mood swings

  • Periods of stress-related paranoia

  • impulsive , self-destructive behavior

  • Loss of contact with reality

  • Unstable relationships

  • unclear or shifting self-image

  • Self harm or suicidal tendencies.

Strengths of BPD

With that being said, if you or someone you know has been diagnosed with BPD don't get discouraged. Many people with this disorder get better over time with treatment and can learn to live a life they love. And remember, YOUR DIAGNOSIS DOES NOT DEFINE YOU <3
