I am sure we have heard this phrase more times than we can count, and have been guilty of saying it as a kid back in the day. I remember always wishing to be eighteen so I could get a car, move out and make money. Once I was of age, I got the opportunity to go to college out of state, and got a taste of a little bit more independence. I quickly realized, this is not at all what I had wished for. Between having to figure out how I was going to fund my finances during college, getting around places, and being a full time student, navigating “adolescent-hood” was nothing short of hard. I had been working and going to school since I was sixteen, so I thought I had nothing to worry about. Over the years, taking up these responsibilities has definitely taught me how to be responsible, know when to make sacrifices, build resilience, but also know how to have fun in the moment.
How many moments of your childhood do you wish you could go back to? Let’s think about this.. How often did you daydream or think about the future as a kid? We spend a lot of our time thinking about the past or worrying about the future that we never really live in the MOMENT. In this day in age, social media and the advancement of technology has significantly brought down our in-person social interaction with others. We are so quick to have our heads glued to our phones that we forget to take in the world around us. As a kid we have dreamt about the moments that we are living now.. What would your younger self think of where you are right now? Would he/she be proud? Have you been working towards making his/her dreams a reality? Of course, there are things that may not go as planned and there may be better things in store, or you simply have to take a different route towards your destination; but what are you doing to get there?
From me to you, I can’t wait for you to live in the moment. SO, I challenge you to do exactly that. When you realize you are just scrolling through your feeds refreshing your timeline frequently, put the phone down for a second and say hello to someone. Lend someone a hand if you see them struggling. Speak to that person that you have been wanting to network with for quite some time. A simple conversation can change your whole life. It can shift your PerspecKtive. Start listening to that little boy/girl inside of you and make an impact. Inspire someone, and put yourself in situations where you are always learning. The knowledge you acquire is UNLIMITED. Don’t let the past hinder you and stop letting the future make you worry. Live in the MOMENT. <3
