"Gumbo-An Opinion Piece"

Young Nudy's fifth album is hereeee and you know I had to give you the tea. East Atlanta stand up! If you want to know what's slimey and what's not this is #TheMove.

Summer is right around the corner and it seems like Prince Slime (Thug is the king right?) wanted to give his fans something to crank in preparation. This 13 track album is pretty solid and has a few songs that are already getting the people going lol.

Not going to lie this kind of a response for a non-mainstream artist (depending on who you ask) is impressive when they're project has been out for less than a week. It shows Nudy might have something to prove.

He dropped "EA Monster" last year in August. In my opinion it got a decent response, but I can already tell "Gumbo" is going to have better numbers (remember this). It had 11 tracks and I only have two-Impala and Fresh as Fuck- on my playlist. Though, I did not listen to that album in its entirety like I did for "Gumbo".

Nudy definitely piqued my interest with this album. I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan, but I definitely dabble in the slime's discography. So, without further ado, here are my ratings for the 13 tracks.

My two favorite songs were Pot Roast ft. Key Glock and Passion Fruit. Passion Fruit is clearly a song for your girl. If you want to butter her up or gas her head, rap that to her. I couldn't keep up with all the words so far, but the stuff I did hear had me blushing like Nudy was flirting with me. Him and Key Glock also did what they needed to do. I don't know if it was because he had a clear message that made it slap harder, but him and Key Glock were the perfect pair to inform people they better be bout it if they're going to be outside. Neither song had to do too much to capture their audience.

I think the best underground/underrated hits on the album are going to be McChicken and Pancake. Both have a beat that will draw you in and it's basically Nudy talking his shit. To me, that's when a rapper will either shine or bomb. I think the Pancake beat is cool because I'm 90% positive the beginning is similar to Asian Doll's shabooya beat(Nudy used it better though). In any case, both songs got increasingly better so it's worth a listen.

You know Mr. Slime couldn't leave off his cousin from this project. There's plenty of reasons why I think Peaches & Eggplants is going to be the song that's most successful off the album. Besides, 21 Savage appearing as the feature, it literally catches your attention immediately with some onomatopoeia to start the song. Second, it's a good club and hype song. It could be used at games, the pregame, all sorts of situations for real.

Overall I think the album will get a few plays. I think for artists like the Young Nudy's Aboogie's, etc. it's pressure for their projects to gain radio play. They're established but not quite headlining anything huge (although A-Boogie has been booked frequently and had decent radio play a few years back). But, one thing about those artists, especially Young Nudy, they have a solid fanbase! His little slimeballs have been advertising his album as much as he is lol.
