Versatility is key, and both Vinyl and Honeycomb Cafe have that element. In addition to some classic menu options, both have flavorful dishes that'll have you complimenting the chef. #TheMove this week is Vinyl and Honeycomb Cafe.
Honeycomb Cafe is a small quaint restaurant in Belmont, NC which is around 20-30 minutes away from Charlotte. The space is pretty small and super popular on the weekends. If you don't have a reservation you can expect at least 30 minutes of wait time. Their menu contains different coffees-spiked and virgin-teas, and of course delicious food options. To drink, I had the ice coffee and iced latte vanilla flavored. Both really didn't stand out. The coffee was good and had bold flavor but I think at least the latte could've been sweeter. Their menu looked so good and it was really hard to settle on an item. I decided to indulge in their "Spring Specials" menu and ordered the Grit Bowl. I added a homemade cinnamon roll which was on the regular menu.

The grit bowl was sooo tasty. It came with shredded cheddar cheese a breakfast meat (bacon) and eggs. The bacon was cooked perfectly and was nice and thick. You easily got a great bite combining all the ingredients together. I was enjoying every bite. I probably scraped the bowl a bit

The cinnamon roll was scrumptious as well. It was a pretty big size with cream cheese frosting and a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar on top. This too was addicting to eat. I was trying to save some but it was an ideal blend of sweet and bread. Needless to say, I crushed. Overall I'd give the meal a 9/10. Some might say that's kind of high for a basic meal, but I honestly had no complaints. The portion for the grits could have been a tiny bit bigger but it was certainly enough to fill one up. Adding a side would have made the meal more satisfying. Nonetheless, the flavor was most definitely there and the prices were reasonable. I wasn't thrilled about the ambience and venue, but the staff was kind and that food was banging. I'd spin the block.
Vinyl had a much better venue and set up. It's tucked next to a few other bars and restaurants. However, Vinyl stands out because of its large record disk on the outside and its trendy music. The bar has seating inside as well as outside and was playing the latest sports events on the televisions.
This menu wasn't as deep with their food options. To me, it was very limited. I decided to try the fish and frites, but with garlic parmesan fries (I'm on them real real bad). The fish were basically fish stick portions. The fish wasn't over seasoned and they provided enough lemon to get that fresh taste from the fish. The tartar sauce with lemon zest was so so good. Paired with the flakiness of the fish's crust, it was to die for. The fries were great too. They had a nice crunch, were hot, and the parmesan's appearance was noticeable. The garlic parmesan fries actually tasted really good with the tartar sauce. I think it's because in addition to the lemon taste the tartar sauce was rich and savory. I loved the food and the tunes were hitting too.

After the fish, I ordered their scotch deviled egg. Honestly, I started off on the wrong foot because I hadn't realized they were scotch eggs. I don't like those. In any case, I still tried these with an open mind. They just weren't it; At all. These eggs were coated in breadcrumbs, beef, and chorizo. The inside had whipped yolk with jalapeños and bacon to top. I liked the ambience and it seemed like the drinks were good so I'd come back. At least I know their fries are solid too.
Hopefully I didn't make you too hungry. Happy eating and stay tuned for #TheMove that'll have us buzzing next.
