Updated: Apr 6, 2023

Top shelf music that dropped in 2021.

There is no order for this piece but a couple of my personal favorites from last year.

1) Doja cat - PLANET HER.

I was late to this album. Not until October was I presented with the sound of Doja besides the famous, "Bitch I'm a cow" era. I was one who was turned away and never looked back.

Thanks to my girly, Simone, my ears have been blessed with the sound of HER. Planet Her is for those who are looking for a feeling they've never felt before. For those who need to trip. For those who are free floating. And of course for the gurls. No skips.

2) Est Gee - Bigger Than Life or Death.

If you know me, you know my love for Gee's music. Est Gee is the best pick up on CMG if you ask me. I was able to experience the listening party for this album in July at Irving Plaza. Gee's type of music is my favorite. Fent/Coke bars are still valid bars. Lets argue. Gee had the dynamic duo of Young Thug & Future on his album. On HIS remix of Lick Back. THATS BIG DAWG SHIT. He had features from the entire CMG camp. As well as Durk and Lil Baby. This album came with a HEAVY hand and I will forever bump this. On the deluxe of part 2, which was dropped 4 months after the original, was provided a project with NO features and it held its weight. Another no skipper. SHINNA OF THE YEAR.

3) Culture 3. - Migos.

I love the Migos. Always have. Will this compare to the original culture? Absolutely not. Did they give us bangers? Is the sky blue? Lol. I will forever be grateful for Straightenin. Forever. I will choose that as a karaoke trio one day. Modern day was TOP Tier for me. When they team up with Cardi B, it will forever be smooth. I truly do feel like the Migos started a sound of music in my generation that people have been trying to achieve for years. That's why they are at the stature they are. They invented a sound. A lot of folks said this album didn't get a lot of replay value. Which I agree. I think top three singles for me, BESIDES straightenin, Modern Day, Roadrunner, and Handle my business.

4) Shiesty Season - Pooh Shiesty.

First and for most, I'd like to say free the shiestiest. I don't think anyone should be on trial for life for shooting someone in the ass. But clearly, I don't get paid enough to think that. I also feel like if Pooh Shiesty was out this year, I think he would had this whole shit on tilt. Honestly. Pooh is signed to 1017, which is Gucci Mane's label, in case you didn't know. I think that him being on Gucci Mane's camp is perfect for his sound. That boy is from the souF. On Shiesty Season it has his hit single, Back In Blood featuring Lil Durk. He has 21 Savage, Gucci Mane, Tay Keith on this album. My fav songs on there are; Twerksum, Ugly, Box of Churches, Drop Some Shit.

5)The Plugs I Met 2. - Benny The Butcher & Harry Fraud.

Benny.. Benny.. Benny.. Benny The Butcher has not missed the past two years. This is riding music. This is considered Hood Classic to me. This is giving jefe vibes. Trap Royalty at its finest. When I think luxury rap I think Rick Ross and 2 Chainz and they are both on this album. Fat Joe was a PERFECT feature for Talkin' Back. My personal favs off the project are Live By It, Overall, Thanksgiving, and Survivor's Remorse. I also thing Benny does a great job with visuals. I think Benny understands that he is a phenomenal story teller and he now has the resources to display that in several forms. Big Boss shit.

6) Certified Lover Boy - Drake.

There is no way that this isn't going on the top lists of the year for me. Its actually the number 4 most played album in my Apple replay. Am I ashamed? Absolutely not. Its Drake. The day it dropped, I didn't enjoy it. At all. Was very upset it didn't give me loverboy vibes. But the more I listened, I realized, this is modern day R&B. This is Drake. At an elevated level. Drake gives us a refreshed version of "Shut It Down" in every album. I think in CLB, that version was TSU. There are several songs on this album that make me feel like I am making it snow in the strip AND/OR going home with $6K in a plastic bag because of Drake. Like tell me about myself sir. Sing about me. I also think a duo that isn't spoken upon enough is Drake & 21 Savage. They get together and hop very deeply in the zone. Adding Project Pat on there set the fucking tone in my eyes. Over all a great album. I only listen up until Race My Mind. After that, nothing tickles my ears. Roll out of this album with the billboards WORLDWIDE had everyone else shook in the industry. That set a standard in album roll outs. The cover was the most duplicated, concept wise. AMAZING MARKETING.

2021 was a great year in music. I can only imagine the amount of music that got released during this time duration. I discovered so many new sounds and artists off the strength of being around my friends and network. 2022 awaits us and I cannot wait to indulge in everything smooth.
