Icon is the perfect title for this album we are celebrating today. Icon, the album, means so much to not only myself but to everyone who is involved. Truly an iconic blend of both Connecticut & New York artistry.
Pyro Lucain is a producer and artist of 10+ years. An Albany raised, New Haven based artist who has been on point since his first day in a studio.
Lucain started making Icon in Spring of 2021. This album is composed with heavy hitters, heavy hits, and iconic shit. Pyro created a 12 song, 37 minute album that impacted everyone's ear and embodied the essence of quality music.
I got to chop it up with Pyro a year after Icon. Asking questions that everyone has been wondering since the listening party we curated last year.
When did you start creating Icon?
“I started making Icon in Spring of 2021. About end of April, early May."
How long did it take you to complete Icon?
“Took me roughly 6 months to create the album. During those six months, I immediately went into work mode once I decided I was going to create an album. All I was focused on was creating the best album possible.”
When did you know you wanted to create an album completely produced by you?
“I know when I wanted to take complete control over my music career.”
How did you know who you wanted to be featured on Icon?
“I know who I wanted based on the beats that were being made. I had the ear for which artist would fit for that specific beat.”
What does it mean to be an Icon?
“Icon means to be honest, upstanding, dependable, dedicated, hard-working, selfless, positive influencer, and a trailblazer.”
What was your favorite moment from the entire experience of Icon?
“My favorite moment was documenting the process. When it came to documenting, I didn't have a camera man to follow me around. I had to take it upon myself to display what its like to produce an entire album.”
What's your biggest takeaway from ICON?
“My biggest takeaway was believing myself and believing that this album was going to take me a step further in my career.“
Your top 3 songs from ICON?
“Air Maxes w/ GQ The Prince, Queen Shit w/ Piff Montana, Chello, Keen Streetz, and Murda Capital w/ Chaz Money. Those three songs hit to me the most because they represent real street hip hop and that’s what I was raised off of. So for me to convey the sound I loved into my wavs? Was pretty monumental to me.”
A year later, how does it feel?
“It feels great to say the least.”
If you haven't heard Icon by Pyro Lucain, this would be the perfect time to do so. One year later or even 10 years down the road, this album is timeless.
Pyro, thank you so much for allowing me to be apart of this iconic time in your career. Album roll out was so fun. We learned so much. We connected with a lot of people. And we grew. Forever solid. I still bring up this piece to every third person I chat with within the music industry in New York. Its brag worthy.
