The Home

By: Moonchie

As an Interior Design major I am a sucker for modern styled homes and/or apartment. From the sleek white marble counter tops, the crisp cut lines and minimalism. Modern styled spaces have become the new staple look for “luxury,” and although I live for it and love it, I’m tired of everyone’s home and/or apartments looking the same.

Usually while on social media I come across a lot of home content wether it be renovations, home styling, whatever. 9/10 every space that happens to come on my feed have very similar features from the neutral color palate, sofa choice and even decor. There is nothing wrong with getting inspiration from other people‘s home spaces, but everything is starting to look very copy and paste.

Don’t get me wrong, your space is your space and by all right you can do whatever you want to it. However, you don’t always have to follow trends unless it’s something you’ve been wanting to try or it just genuinely fits your personality and style. The video above is an example of a neutral home that usually comes across my feed.

While in school I learned that color, yes color can affect our mood. You probably didn’t know that the color red stimulates our appetite and makes us want to eat, that’s why majority if not all fast food restaurants have red in their logo or business design.

With that being said, I know most of our inner child comes out when it’s time to put our own place together because we’ve dreamed of this day to come. Making a space yours is what makes it a home. A space isn’t yours until it’s feels like a home and you feel like you belong. If you do love a neutral foundation that fine, adding accent pieces with texture or a pop of color can not only help improve your mood, but set your space apart and if you like funky colors and decor that’s okay also.

I have nothing against the chosen styles for the spaces in the videos that I have provided. I just wanted to show both a neutral and a funky style of home. Making a space feel like your home is the most important thing when putting it together.
