SneakHER : Women in the Sneaker Community

If you are a true woman of the sneaker world / community then you know how far we have come to have women collaborations, specific sneaker releases, sizes & color ways dedicated to women. We’ll be highlighting a few great women of the sneaker community.

Vashtie Kola has set the tone with being the first woman to design a Jordan sneaker. She was chosen in 2010 to make her own color way of the classic 1987 Jordan 2 silhouette. She decided on a lavender base, dark purple stitching & lavender laces. Vashtie has not released another shoe with Jordan since then, but the women in the sneaker community are glad someone was able to break the male dominance barrier.

As we step into the new age of sneaker fashion, I’d like to highlight Aleali May. Aleali is a model known for her out of the box luxury street wear, she has been able to get her hands into styling & being one of Jordan brand partners. May was introduced into the fashion world when she got her first gig being a model for Louis Vuitton & later being able to make connections for herself to build her career & persona.

May is the second woman to collaborate with Jordan, having 7 different releases which one of them specifically being a friends and family only pair. Aleali is the only woman at the moment to have as many collaborations with Jordan. Her first collaboration was October 6, 2010 dropping an infamous Jordan 1 silhouette that featured materials that were not usually used such as corduroy, satin & even fluffy chenille. Aleali’s style has grown gracefully & we look forward to seeing what other greatness she plans to establish in the future.

Today’s generation has grown up on social media & although some may feel it alters what is real, it also puts a spotlight on things that don’t get enough attention. If it weren’t for social media we wouldn’t have as many women representation for the sneaker community to always be able to come back to & view.

Sherlina Nym, if you don’t know who she is then you should get a little more familiar with her. Sherlina is a social media influencer based in London, UK. Her social media presence is focused on fashion and sneakers. She always has the newest & latest shoe pick ups that do not stop at Jordan’s. Her ability to be versatile show casing shoes from Chanel, to air maxes, to Nike saci’s & so much more. She has become well known in the sneaker community through her own creativity, majority of the time when you see a sneaker photo by her you know it’s her based on the style & set up of the photo which makes it easier for her supporters to identify her & her work. She recently redid her sneaker closet which everyone on Instagram went crazy for that stacks 11 shelves high per each section. She has had the opportunity to collaborate with a couple brands to do sneaker & merch giveaway’s. Will Sherlina be added to the list & make her own official shoe collaboration? We sure wish for the best & hope as the sneaker community evolves, more women will be allowed to bring in the heat !

Whatever you give a woman, she is going to multiply. You give a woman a house, she makes a home. You give a woman groceries, she makes a meal. You give a woman a pair of shoes, she’ll walk you to the front door of her empire. Happy Women‘s Month to every phenomenal woman.
