Remember when sneaker releases were first come first serve? Where you knew 9/10 you were at least guaranteed your one pair? You and your friends would even camp out over night until the next morning in front of the sneaker store for a specific release even if you had school the next morning?

Yeah those days are long gone. First come first serve are now automatic raffles/draws on top of workers in the sneaker store holding pairs for outsiders that are willing to pay extra so they can make a little extra. Camping doesn’t get you anything anymore besides disappointment & an at least guaranteed one pair? Good luck. The sneaker game is nothing like it used to be.

Buying sneakers is the new 90210, You better be privileged or willing to spend an unnecessary penny for the new drops. Hypebeast & Resellers have been taking over and it’s only going to get worst.

As a woman in the sneaker game it’s starting to become very noticeable that resellers purposely focus on buying out the smaller sizes so those who are looking for releases for their kids or women looking for smaller sizes will have no choice but to go to them. Resellers sell back shoes for double or more, some for profit & majority for greed. Grade school shoes generally retail between $120 - $140 and womens $150 - $170. Women usually buy grade school shoes if the release is a family pack, but don’t be fooled! Those resellers don't skip a beat & will be right back on it for releases that are specifically for women & do it all over again.

Majority of the time Hypebeast will pay whatever it cost to have to newest shoe release or street wear merch such as supreme, bape, off white & more. Resellers target audience are Hypebeast & those that are desperate enough to spend their last to have it. Resellers can be individual people who buy & resell which people usually call the “sneaker plug” or actual sneaker companies who have built their business off reselling sneakers such as Goat & StockX. Some sneaker companies have a selling option for people to sell their used sneakers that they no longer want anymore & it’s usually a 50/50 chance you’re going to get something that’s still in good condition for a good price.

Yeezy foam runners are my favorite shoes to use as an example when speaking on ridiculous inflation prices. Above on the left shows the yeezy foam runner going for $300 for a size 3 & on the right is a piece of the official release date & price. This shoe retailed at $90, NINTEY DOLLARS. $90 to now being resold for $300? I don’t think I have to do the math for you to understand what the greed profit was.

As the sneaker game evolves, do you think Hypebeast & Resellers will be the death of sneaker community ? We’re already past scratching the surface of ruining the passion & fun of what sneakers used to be, what’s next ?!
