Roe V. Wade Overturned

June 24th, 2022 marks the day that a woman’s rights law has been overturned along with the mental health of many women. June 24th, 2022 marks the day that many women woke up out of bed, to read/hear that our rights are being stripped, once again. The Supreme Court has put an end to a legal, and safe abortions as a right in our country and as a right of our womanhood.

Quite frankly, this law should not be up for debate for the second time. There are many reasons as to why a women needing an abortion is necessary. For the sake of their own health and not being able to carry to term, along with the trauma that may have come with conceiving a child. When it comes to a man, let alone a group of men making a decision for a woman like this? I could never agree. A woman should have a right to her own body and a right to saving her own life especially when it comes to contraception.

Women of color are going to feel this decision in full force. Between the maternal mortality rates that already exist within this population, and the fact that women can longer make a decision to save themselves or a fetus? For instance, the treatment for an ectopic pregnancy is abortion. The treatment for a septic uterus is abortion. Furthermore, the treatment for miscarriage that your body won’t release is abortion. Now that abortions are no longer an option, more women will die.

Michelle Obama notified the world that she is heartbroken of the current events that are taking place. She goes on and states “I am heartbroken that we may now be destined to learn the painful lessons of a time before Roe was made law of the land- a time when women risked losing their lives getting illegal abortions. A time when the government denied women control over their reproductive functions, forced them to move forward with pregnancies they didn’t want and then abandoned them once their babies were born..” It does in fact feel like we are moving back in time, in such a crucial era of our lives. In the middle of the pandemic, and in the midst of the economy plummeting and in the midst of a mental health crisis being at an all time high.

There are many concerns that are on the rise for the immoral decision the supreme court made. CT is in defense of this decision, and hopefully will keep fighting for women’s rights.

Thinking towards the future of women, this will impact where one chooses to live, go to college and even start a family. This will impact how a woman emotionally and physically views and experiences pregnancy along with the trauma that comes alongside it. This will further affect the mortality rate of women who are pregnant and cannot carry to full term. This has put a great influence on the country. There are physicians around the world that are voicing their stance against this decision, but this causes many practices and hospitals to change their policies and protocols.

To all of the women out there, take care of yourself. These times are beyond scary. Reach out for help if need be.
