Reading Rhythms Hudson Yards Reading Party: A Review

I went to a Reading Rhythms Reading Party, here’s how it went.

Reading Rhythms is a global community of readers. They are not a book club, they’re a reading party! They have chapters all over the world, where they curate relaxing and engaging events for those who love to read.

I personally have been seeing Reading Rhythms all over recently. I loved the idea of a reading party, going to a location and being amongst people who enjoy the same thing as you. I really like that it’s something that can build community without being held to specific reading timelines, like with a book club.

On October 19, I finally bit the bullet and went to an event. The Reading Rhythms Hudson Yards Reading Party was held on the Backyard at Hudson Yards. The event was held from 11 AM - 1 PM and it started right on time (I love a punctual event).

The program was pretty simple, the hosts gave us a brief introduction to themselves and what Reading Rhythms is. There was a harpist present who set the mood beautifully. During our reading stretches (there were two that were 40 minutes each), the sound of the harp made it easy to become immersed in what we were reading.

Before we started reading, one of the hosts led us in a brief breathing exercise that helped get us into the mindset for reading. After the first reading stretch, we had a break to watch a video sent by Wen-Yi Lee. She kindly provided us with copies of her new book “When They Burned the Butterfly,” which releases on October 21.

Finally, we had some time to talk to other readers about their current reads, bookish things, and network with those around us. Our last 40 minute reading stretch was peaceful, as the sun had come out by that time. Overall, I read about 107 pages of my current read “When The Wolf Comes Home” by Nat Cassidy (one of my fall reads!).

I would 100% recommend Reading Rhythms events for anyone looking to find some niche bookish spaces. Find a chapter near you here: https://readingrhythms.co
