As we grow older and everything from TV, music, food, makeup, life, ect. evolves, it has been such a journey seeing the difference between my childhood and the new generation’s childhood.
Nowadays we have kids that are attached at the hip to their tablets versus us being outside playing. We would get grass stains in our good clothes or scrape our ankles standing on pegs on the back of our friends bicycle. Speaking of bicycles I know some of you probably read that and said “damn, I don’t know when was the last time I rode a bike!,” and I definitely thought about it myself too, but it’s okay this is a safe space.
Nothing could compare to buying a fresh Blistex or Carmex (then instantly losing it by the end of the week), the show stopping lip glow roll on lip gloss from the hair store, the mint Victoria’s Secret squeeze gloss - if you know, you know! We had no Fenty gloss bomb or Summer Fridays butter balm.

When it came to food and sweets the anticipation of buying a paper bag full of penny candies, keep in mind we only spent a dollar, was to die for! — Or those fruit juices we’d get in school in the mini cartons hoping they were frozen a little bit like a slushy while specifically avoiding the grape flavor.
As much as I love my AirPods and how convenient they are, but lord knows I don’t know what I’d do without my famous Skull Candy or JVC cord headphones. Those were the only ones that you could hear the actual bass in the songs. We’d wish for mp3 players way before different versions of iPods were created.

Although the newer generation didn’t fully grow up on playground activities and corner stores gems, seeing how successful they can be through social media has been such a rollercoaster experience. Although there are some people and companies that still like old school portfolios, it is nice to know there are free platforms that they can use to showcase their work in their own ways and style to find their target audience without feeling like they have to fit into a cookie cutter image that isn’t authentically them.
I could go on and on about all the nostalgic things that made our childhood feel immersive, but I don’t think we’d have enough time in the world. What’s your favorite nostalgic thing or moment from your childhood?
