Have you ever been on Instagram scrolling through and came across a photo of someone wearing something you liked so much you’d buy it right then and there so you tap the picture, but they didn’t tag the company nor did they mention it in the caption and to make it worst there’s a hand full of people commenting on the photo asking “where’d you get your ______ ?” and the person has yet to give an answer because it’s obvious they don’t want other people to have access to it? Yeah me too, that’s called gatekeeping. As much as people want to be known as influential they sure do love to gate-keep.

Don’t get me wrong everyone has at least a handful of things they don’t tag that are most likely in their top 5-10 that they keep to themselves because they don’t want it to randomly become a popular trend and sell out all the time and if you read that and responded with a ”no,” stop lying. As much as some people don’t admit it 9/10 when we come across that convincing photo that makes us want to buy an item, we usually head over to the persons page to see what else their photos and pieces look like to see what else we’ll find that we like.

Im a firm believer of “google it until you find it,” and if it’s one thing that’ll make me upset is not being able to find an item I really want online and it just so happens to be popular at the moment, because my googling skill are phenomenal. I recently came across a pleated pink mini skirt that I’ve (and the people in the comments) been search for, for a couple of weeks now. A fashion page posted a collage of two women wearing the pink skirt, but styling it differently and someone in the comments gave the @ names of the women so i clicked on one of the womens pages to see if they tagged the skirt on their personal page and if course they didn’t.

A lot of influencers & social media people love to state that if they bought something from an establishment with their own money then they’re not obligated to tag the business or brand and by all means they‘re right to an extent, but turn around and tag fendi or LV when we can clearly see what and where the item came from. If you’re going to gate-keep then do it with a designer item and tag that small business you bought that hoodie from so they can get some support. I don’t see the harm in tagging a brand that you spent your own money on because it’s obvious you liked an item from them so much that you decided to spend you own coins so why not put the people on?

Genuine fashionista‘s wether man or woman are going to give the tea on what they’re wearing to show people there are other brands out there that they probably didn’t know about that produces quality items.
