Declutter your mind

Ever feel like you always have a hundred things going on at once? You’re thinking about needing to get x,y and z done all the while doing a completely different task. I am a victim of these very same things and it has caused me to burn myself out in the process. I often forgot to simply take a break, or do something for myself in the midst of it.

Believe it or not, our brain goes on auto-pilot while driving. Now what does this mean? When our brains are familiar with an activity, it switches off and goes on “auto-pilot mode” which allows us to perform tasks without actually thinking about them. This concept is very similar to muscle memory. Not to mention, this can be extremely dangerous and eventually lead to car accidents and/or mortality.

The reason why I mention any of this is, because it is super important to declutter your mind from time to time. We can often see signs pretty early when we are feeling symptoms of stress, depression or anxiety.

Here are a few symptoms to assess if your mind is cluttered:

  • You lose focus in giving attention to detail

  • You have too many things to do on your priority list. And even the small tasks seem hard for you.

  • You feel under extreme pressure and stress

  • You lack clarity in thought

Essentially, the clutter in your mind controls your actions and reactions to things. It is important to recognize these things and commit to actions that will help you declutter your brain.

Some things you can do are:

  • Declutter your physical environment. Physical clutter leads to mental clutter and cleaning your space makes a big help!

  • Write it down. Whether it’s in an agenda, in your phone or calendar. You are not obligated to keep everything in your brain. You are human! Use one of these tools to keep up with planning for your week/month and upcoming appointments.

  • Come up with a routine. Make things a little easier by picking out clothes for the next day, the night before. Meal prep lunch/dinner for the week or a few days. Wake up early before your day starts so that you are not in a rush!

I hope these tips can be of some help to you, let's declutter!

With love,
