Hey Movers! If you've been paying attention to the entertainment industry, then the Writer's and Actor's strike would have been no surprise to you. Thankfully, the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists' (SAG-AFTRA ) strike has now come to a close too. Here's #TheMove for all the details.

About a month ago, SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP ( ) were able to agree on certain terms that suspended the actor's strike. This event was a major key for Hollywood seeing as only the Writer's Strike had ended. Projects were still undergoing holds because actors and actresses had not been granted the equality and equity they demanded.

According to SAG-AFTRA, terms of this new contract cover new scopes of concern, like Ai technology, while also addressing older issues that have been frowned upon. One of the older issues being improved upon is streaming compensation. Celebrities have made it clear in both the music and cinema industry streaming payouts are very minimal even when the numbers are well over the thousands and even the hundred thousands. However, the platforms that stream the content make a pretty good penny and even invest a good chunk of change to acquire certain content leaving the contributors in the dust.

The outrage for wages is not actors and actresses being greedy, but instead them wondering how they are supposed to have the same stability as other employed Americans. Some protestors brought up points like no job stability, lack of benefits, and more as reasons to participate in the strike in the first place. What do y'all think? Under these conditions, woudn't anyone be willing to strike for better?

The full details of the agreement was released publicly by SAG-AFTRA a few weeks after the tentative agreement was reached! Some specific changes that were named included a 7% general wage increase, casting process protections, proper hair and makeup services for Tv/Theatrical/streaming contracts, "Doubling pay for dancers that can sing and singers that can dance", and requiring consent from performers before using their likeness and image for Ai just to name a few. I don't know about everyone else, but this strike is exciting to me because we're finally getting good tv back. Shows that have become beloved by fans are starting to announce the date they'll return to airing new content. Shows coming in Janaury consist of, America's Got Talent, Law & Order: SVU, and the Chicago series (Med, Fire, P.D.) (Calvario and Lowe). Shows that will be making a comeback in February consist of Abbott Elementary, The Voice, and the Simpsons.
